Historical Context:
Jean d'Ylen was a French advertisement artist whose work involved comical images of clowns and men. The style of D'Ylen so closely resembled that of the more famous Italian ad artist, Leonetto Cappiello, that he became employed by the same studio to handle the other artist's extra work.
