Historical Context:
Jean d'Ylen was a French advertisement artist whose best works involved comical images of clowns and men. The style of D'Ylen so closely resembled that of the more famous Italian ad artist, Leonetto Cappiello, that he became employed by the same studio in order to handle the other artist's extra work.
