Fernand Toussaint, the celebrated Belgian painter of still lifes and figurative subjects, was born in Brussels in 1873. At the age of fifteen he entered the Academy of Fine Arts, Brussels, where he was taught by several proficient and prestigious artists, under whom he began to formulate his own individual style by combining the elegance and fine draftsmanship with impressionistic painting.
