Historical Context:
Makuuchi was a successful Japanese poet and printmaker. Born in Seattle, Makuuchi's prints are mostly black and white and depict people or birds. He also taught printmaking at University of Wisconsin and at University of Ife in Nigeria. His work can be seen in various museums around the United States, including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
