Michael Pfleghaar describes his body of work to be rooted in personal allegory and the struggle he has with identity. Every visual element of the composition has intrinsic meaning for the artist and he hopes to communicate this through the composition. Furniture plays a large role in meaning, as they act as a personification of the human body. Emotional associations to colors add complexity to the impression one gains from the piece. Additionally, objects can be used to represent barriers, fears, and paths one has in life. Each combination can thus have a plethora of connotations, allowing different meanings for different people.
