Historical Context:
Jeff Colby used mixed media and collage to unite themes of hope with horror, beauty with tragedy and the curiosity of life. After being diagnosed with HIV in the 1990s, Colby's work included powerful meditations on his own physical and emotional struggles brought about by his illness. Until his death from AIDS complications in 1996, Colby continued to create artwork that reflected on his personal existence within life’s grand schemes.
