Historical Context:
Robert Patricio is considered a rising star in the contemporary world of Acoma pottery. Robert was taught the traditional ways of Acoma pottery creation by family members as he worked with them gathering clay dug on the pueblo and harvesting the vegetation which is boiled down to create the colors used on the pottery. Even as a young boy he worked closely with his grandmother and mother to learn the traditional pottery techniques passed down each generation. Today Robert specializes in producing hand coiled pottery with designs interpreted from ancient pottery shards found on the lands of the Acoma Pueblo.
