Steven Sorman was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1971. He has become known for his complex, multimedia-based drawings and prints. He has a unique way of combining line, layers, media and color into complex and challenging images. Through the use of color, texture and the layering of paper, Sorman creates image full of rhythm and movement. In 2005, Sorman was a visiting artist at GVSU and worked with print making students within the Department of Visual & Media Arts.. He later became the GVSU Stuart B. Padnos Chair from 2007 - 2011.
