Historical Context:
This is an image taken by the Hubble Telescope of the Eagle Nebula. The tower like structure is made up of billowing cold gas and dust. The tower is 9.5 light-years or about 90 trillion kilometers high, about twice the distance from our Sun to the next nearest star.
