In the city of Assisi, Italy the Assisi Cathedral is a world wide attraction for both tourists and Franciscans. In 1140 AD plans to build an Umbrian Romanesque cathedral began to formulate and in 1253 AD construction was completed. Over the centuries many changes were added to the original design of the cathedral: in 1571 AD the interior of the cathedral was redone in the Renaissance style. This church holds a special place in Christian history as the home of St.Francis of Assisi and St.Clare.
