An out-of-focus image of dancers wearing black outfits. Standing in a line, moving their arms and legs.
"For me, dance is not about a singular moment in time, it is about the movement as a whole. Having danced myself for 20 years, I was curious to see what the dance could look like as a photograph. This thesis work explores the movement of the body through dance. By slowing the shutter speed of the camera, it has become possible to see that the body paints the dance across the canvas, rather than striking a pose. The goal is to show you something about dance that you never could have seen by simply looking. These photographs show you what it means to paint the dance through each step, leap, and turn." -Danielle Elliot
