Historical Context:
Michigan artist Elona Van Gent's sculptures draw inspiration from part natural history and part surrealism. She combines both passions to create beautiful, but edgy art forms. Van Gent's works are known for their mechanical-like inventions that never seem to have a distinct function. Today she works heavily with computer programs to create even more complex and nearly unbelievable forms. This work is inspired by the writings of Dr. Seuss leavened with Dutch philosophy. On this work Van Gent reflects, "... it's his attitude. His approach. His sense of humor. I would rather speak lightly than with fist pounding."
