Historical Context:
Steven Heyman was born and raised in Southern California. He moved to Chicago in 1978, and completed his master's degree at the Art Institute of Chicago. He was inspired by the almost blinding sight of white-hot steel being poured in a Chicago foundry. Soon after he saw this process, light itself became the subject and subtext of nearly all his abstract and mysterious paintings. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he teaches classes in contemporary practices.
