Historical Context:
Johannes Itten was a Swiss expressionist painter, designer, teacher, writer and theorist that was part of the core group of artists associated with the Bauhaus, a school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts. His biggest artistic motivators were the color wheel and basic geometry, upon which most of his major works are built. He published a book on the subject called The Art of Color, in which he designs an extension of the color wheel called a "color sphere," including 12 colors. Itten's work on color is also said to be an inspiration for seasonal color analysis, being the first to have associated color palettes with four types of people and then designating those types with the names of seasons.
