Historical Context:
Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman and print maker who was born in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. He came from an artistic background, his father, Giovanni Giacometti, being a well-known Post-Impressionist painter. Alberto was a key figure in the Surrealist movement, though his work spans more than this single style.
