Historical Context:
For over forty years, Ben Freedman taught students at West Virginia University. Heavily influenced by the Cubist art movement, Freedman breaks down recognizable images into their more basic geometric shapes. He highlights these areas by using colors, highlighting the orange, yellows and red that Nasturtium flowers are known for. Thought his techniques create abstracted images, he brings in areas of cooler tones, like blue, and more organic shapes reminding us of the true nature of flowers.
