Historical Context:
Pictured here are Jesse Boyd and Amy Vega Boyd. Amy is a graduate of GVSU's College of Education with a BS in Social Studies and K-8 Teacher Certification, as well as a BS in Criminal Justice. She currently works as a high school adviser in the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program at GVSU. Amy and Jerry met through mutual friends when Jerry was attending Reformed Bible College. Jerry, who was unable to be in the photograph due to his demanding work schedule, is a full-blood Navajo. Amy's paternal grandfather is from Salinas, Puerto Rico, and her maternal grandmother is from Neebish Island, Michigan near the Ojibwe reservation in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. In addition to dancing, Jesse drums and sings with Owashtinong Chung-A-Ming (Grand River Singers).
