Mother and daughter on porch with a red door behind them. The woman on the left has a dark blue shirt and has her arms crossed over her knees. The woman to the right of her has long dark hair, a pink shirt, and her arms are off to her left. Grand Rapids, Michigan
Historical Context:
Pictured here are Paris and Sarah Tennenhouse. Paris was the Art Gallery's Collections Design Manager at Grand Valley State University. "Sarah was born in a small town in Texas. How small? Small enough to be the first baby born in the new year on the second day of January. This was the first sign that she was going to be someone to be reckoned with, my little Texas Tornado. She wasn't an 'easy' baby: her first word before she spoke was 'no.' Her second word when she did speak was 'no.' She has taught me, challenged me, and gifted me with tears and laughter through the years. I wouldn't want it any other way."
