Pictured here are Jacques, Elena, Sasha, and Maya of the Mangala/Lioubimtseva family. Jacques is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and African Studies, and Director of the African and African American Studies Program. Elena is an Associate Professor of Geography and Planning. "We come from two different countries and cultures (The Democratic Republic of Congo and Russia). Our family story started in Belgium where Sasha was born...Maya is a native of Grand Rapids, where we have been living for the past six years. Family passion: voyage of discovery, nature hiking, everything new, global and sustainable. There is no "primary" language in our home. The conversation can easily switch back and forth between French, Russian and English, to which we have been adding Spanish."
