Historical Context:
Hyang Lim Han’s work is inspired greatly by Korea’s natural landscape and climate. Korea is a peninsula with many mountain ranges. Seventy percent of its land consists of mountains. His work reflects these geographical qualities of Korea while incorporating underlying themes of the winter and spring seasons. From mountain tops to snow covered plains, the spectator is able to catch a glimpse of the natural environment of Korea through Han’s ceramic pieces.
