There is a small, gestural drawing of a figure looking at an image in mostly dark brown ink. The bottom layer of the print is a line-and-dot pattern in a light tan colored ink.
First Edition of the fundamental document on the artistic application of the use of lithography in the fine arts. The book is one of 800 copies on papier velin. The large trial proof of the Bonnard lithograph was issued in a handful of copies only. Mellerio's important text with the two Bonnard colour lithographs serve as a key summation of the use of lithography by painters and printmakers. It documents the advanced perception which painters like Toulouse-Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, and other members of the Nabis school incorporated into this new medium of printmaking at the forefront of the colour revolution.
