Large fern-like frond with writing throughout.
Historical Context:
Shilin Hora’s childhood was spent wandering through peach orchards and grape vineyards of St. Joseph, Michigan, and helping her grandfather on his blackberry farm and Christmas tree farm. She was constantly collecting and studying the nature that surrounded her. This influence can be seen throughout her craft, in botanical inspired prints, and the miniature “seed museums” she curates. On her work she states, “I draw and print images of objects that I have found and collected in nature. I use the natural world of plants, animals, and landscapes as a means to investigate the relationship that exists between nature, me, and other humans...I try to communicate the connection I have with the land and animals in a way that will be seen as both curious and playful. My goal as an artist is to create imagery which reawakens the observer's interest in nature and encourages rapprochement and exploration in the natural world.”
