Description:
Organic abstract: white, blue, black, red; large blue rectangle with lopsided mouth opening onto mixture of colors/shades/shapes against white background.
Historical Context:
A master print maker, Takeshi Takahara uses the Intaglio process to produce his dramatic and abstract prints. A professor of printmaking and drawing at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, Takahara prefers the process of print making as a medium because it allows him to develop and revise each piece in the process, which unlike traditional printing, allows him to render a one-of-a-kind, dimensional print. He prints on Japanese gampi paper because of its strength and transparency and applies it to curved wooden slats, sealing them with persimmon juice.
