Landscape in Latvia
Oil on Canvas
Landscape painting with hills and tall trees on the left; gray-green-yellow sky and blue-purple ground.
Arijs Skride aimed to achieve specific moods through the color and texture of his landscapes and was inspired by the Latvian countryside where he lived. For Skride, painting was a way to connect with nature and create inner-growth. He was a favorite pupil of Latvian painter and founder of the Latvian Academy of Arts, Vilhelms Purvitis. He graduated from the academy in 1932, achieving Masterclass of Landscape Painting.
