Description:
Paper model of the rotunda in DeVos Center with ships and seagulls.
Historical Context:
This is a proposal and maquette of the rotunda located in the lobby of DeVos Center by Rosemary Ellis. She felt that an international business school would be served well by a "maritime exploration and shipping" theme. The artist says, "I wanted to create the feeling of a busy seaside port with the ship berthed right outside... After extensive research, I chose to base my ship's painting on Thad Koza's 'America's Pacific Northwest in 1787.'"
