Inspired by the way languages with pictorial origins have abstracted visual concepts over the years, Jane Everhart applies similar techniques in her depictions of midwestern landscapes. Beginning with a simple sketch to capture a scene, Everhart uses both visual and written cues to fully capture the essence of the landscape she wishes to paint. Those sketches and writings are then transformed into colorful, mixed media paintings. Pertaining to her process, she states: “You have visual marks, and then you make them a pattern, it becomes like furrows in a field. That’s a simple visual language.”
