Historical Context:
"I have always been predisposed to think of Francisco Goya's translation of a caprice as an indulgence of sorts. The Spanish master's image most indelibly etched (a printmaker's tired pun) into my mind is that of a pedicure being performed upon a hideously disfigured she-being. Like Durer and Goya (and countless others), I have tried to fashion myself as a reporter of my times and of the world around me. I have documented the fascinations, fears, and paranoia of our culture...borrowing fashionable images from our hyperactive popular media and rendering them as colorful satire."
