Large gray-green creature with blood dripping from the sky onto its shoulder. Black splayed figure holding bow in left arm spread across creatures back.
Historical Context:
At the point leading down to the Seventh Circle, Dante and Vigil are faced by the Minotaure, who, upon being taunted by Virgil, flies into a fit of fury. While he thrashes about, the poets slip past him only to arrive at Phlegethon, the river of boiling blood, in which the violent souls are immersed. Chiron the chief Centaur who guards the river banks, carries Dante across the river on his back.
