Description:
Julia sets of the exponential fraction. Orange, yellow foliage; black holes (6 images).
Historical Context:
These images are Julia sets* of the exponential function. The images change colorfully as the complex coefficient of the function (a + bi)e varies. The complex numbers whose orbits do not tend to infinity compose the filled Julia set, named for the French mathematician Gaston Julia who studied these sets in the 1920's.
