Historical Context:
These images are Julia sets of the function (1+ bi) sin z. Notice how they change as b varies. As with all the images on these posters, black areas represent more chaotic regions. The complex numbers whose orbits do not tend to infinity compose the filled Julia set, named for the French mathematician Gaston Julia who studied these sets in the 1920's.
