Historical Context:
Claude Manoukian was born in Eubonne, France, near the beautiful forest of Montmorency. At age fourteen he began regularly attending courses at L'École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He created textile design sketches as well as scarves for major fashion houses such as Dior, St. Laurent, Cardin, Gucci, and Givenchy. Manoukian has also designed sets and costumes for ballets such as "The Tales of Mother Goose." His art is tinged with a happy and peaceful quality and depicts a weightless and clear world that vibrates harmoniously through a kind and merry light. Manoukian has left the city and currently lives on a farm in northern Burgundy, in one of the rustic green landscapes that represent both his inspiration and his ideal.
