Historical Context:
Deneille Spohn Moes was born and raised in the back country of Northern Michigan. Being the daughter of a minister, her earliest paintings were religious in nature, often in the form of portraits of Jesus Christ. Her upbringing has made a lasting impression on her life as she raises her five children with her husband and enjoys the values of simplicity and the importance of family.
