Historical Context:
Melville T. Wire was a Methodist minister and artist who spent his career painting and preaching around Oregon. Because of his work as a minister, he was able to devote a significant amount of time to his other passion--art--and painted both well-known views from the state's landmarks and pastoral scenes. Throughout his career, he exhibited his work, and three of his paintings were part of the Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915.
