Historical Context:
Adja Yunkers, Russian-American painter and graphic artist, was born in 1900 in Riga, Latvia. He studied art in Leningrad, Paris, Berlin, and Rome while traveling the world extensively. He resided in Paris for fourteen years and then in Stockholm during World War II. He edited and published the art magazines ARS and Creation in Sweden. He came to the United States in 1947 to become a U.S. citizen.
