Historical Context:
"While wintering in Florida for approximately 20 years, I often made visits to many of the Naples Art Galleries and observed the efforts and approaches of many artists. The paintings of Marjorie Renfroe, a well-known artist of Naples and Asheville, North Carolina, impress me. Her flower paintings are easily identified as the actual flower. With my back ground of flowers and gardens in addition to the beauty of Floridian flowers, it was only natural for me to paint them. I have always had the ability to sketch freehand, so I make many detailed sketches of each flower and how it grows, which I utilize into a final presentation. My goal is to do each of the flowers we grow in our large garden." - Joseph E. Appelt
