David Lubbers received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College, Grand Rapids in 1969, and his master's degree from Michigan State University in Lansing four years later. His work is heavily influenced by his strong interest in geology, specifically natural erosion patterns found in the rock formations and man-made ruins of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
