Historical Context:
In art, postmodernism refers to an influence and reworking of past ideals to fit the contemporary world. In this series, Daleene Menning transforms the shapes and patterns found on Ancient Greek vessels into modern designs. She was inspired by the forms found within Ancient Greek kraters, or large vases used for the dilution of wine with water, and a hydria, a form of an Ancient Greek water carrying jug. In their historic forms, both styles of vessels would have been heavily decorated with detailed figures and patterns.
