Historical Context:
Frederik Meijer was born in 1912 in Greenville, Michigan, the son of two Dutch immigrants. In 1934, Meijer's father, Hendrik Meijer, opened the first Meijer grocery store in Greenville. By 1962, Meijer and his father has launched a chain of "Meijer Thrifty Acres" stores and pioneered the way towards one-stop shopping. In 2011, Meijer passed away in his Grand Rapid home, leaving the business to his children.
