Historical Context:
Though Geniene Hourigan studied illustration at GVSU, today she trades her sketch book for fiber. Hourigan is a local Grand Rapids fiber artist who crafts everything from felted mermaids to pillows, handbags, necklaces and rings. By day she works as a floral designer, by night she works on crochet, felt and embroidery projects. In this piece she combines her illustrative background with her fiber medium. By using a variety of materials and textures, she creates a luscious Garden of Eden like scene.
