Historical Context:
David Shapiro’s paintings and prints feature adjoining square and rectangular fields of color interspersed with varied subtle textile patterns. He chooses rich earthy tones of sepia, umber, ochre, reds, oranges and blues to create an aura of calm and meditative described as a Zen-like visual experience. His themes are on consciousness and our connection to the Universe, evoking the feelings of Eastern meditative practices.
