Babulal Marotia was born in Jaipur, India to a family already deeply entrenched in color. His father, Natu Lal Marotia was an artist who spent his free time painting and influenced Babu to do the same. Babu started practising the specialty of miniature painting at the age of ten. As a teenager, he became a member of the Nawalgarh House, a painting community that specialized in all forms of Indian miniature painting. While Babu continues to study miniature paintings even today, his artwork combines tradition with a style that is truly his own.
