Historical Context:
Tie-dyeing fabric is a common method in Africa as a variety of patterns can be created by using traditional, and local natural dyes. There are several techniques including tying or stitching the cloth to prevent the dye from penetrating the cloth. Other methods include applying starchy or wax substances to repel the dye in certain areas to create patterns.
