Historical Context:
Fishladder is a student-run journal of art and writing edited and produced by undergraduates at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. The annual journal features fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art by GVSU students. As a publication, it strives to be inclusive of writers and artists from all the different parts of our campus community. It hopes to present a diverse mix of singular voices in each issue so that it might capture the voices of the GVSU student body in all its harmony and dissonance. This work of art was featured in a 2021 GVSU Art Gallery exhibition featuring a selection of the artwork from the Fishladder publication. The exhibition is hosted in conjunction with Student Scholars Day, an event celebrating the scholarship, research, and creative work performed by GVSU students from the past year.
