Historical Context:
This work of art was featured in a 2021 GVSU Art Gallery exhibition featuring a selection of the artwork from the Fishladder publication. The exhibition is hosted in conjunction with Student Scholars Day, an event celebrating the scholarship, research, and creative work performed by GVSU students from the past year. On her work, artist Allison Soffa reflects, "How a person adorns themselves gives great insight as to who they are. Jewelry is yet another avenue for outward expression of one's inner self perception. Much insight can be gained by simply observing what someone decides to wear. This piece was also used as an experiment with light and color. I enjoyed playing with high contrast and bold colors to create the figure and the jewelry adorned to tell a story."
