Description:
Photograph of two GVSU students practising maneuvering a wheelchair together on a grassy patch with blankets.
Historical Context:
The GVSU College of Health Professions strives to prepare its students to become exceptional professionals who will impact the health and well-being of the larger community. Each year, hundreds of students are granted bachelor and graduate degrees in GVSU’s various health related programs such as Communication Sciences and Disorders, Diagnostic and Treatment Sciences, Occupational Science and Therapy, and Public Health. This photo was taken during a PT 661 class, and shows a Physical Therapy student lowering their classmate in a wheelchair to facilitate the individual in learning how to right the wheelchair themselves and practice giving instruction to a wheelchair bound patient who needs help lifting themselves up in the event the individual falls out of or tips their wheelchair.
