Historical Context:
"This painting is based on a series where I’m allowing my experience and mood out on the canvas. The layers are made until I no longer have the feeling that prompted the painting. It is an exercise of allowing myself to let go of what I can’t control," states local artist Ryan Crawley. The chaotic colors and shapes seem almost familiar, a visual representation of the thought process of anyone trying to come to grips with life, a memory or a feeling. For Crawley, his initial feelings he had while creating a painting may not be the same story told once it is complete. This painting evoked memories of traveling between Wisconsin to Michigan as a child, the stress of dealing with Chicago traffic, the bright colors of the stagnant traffic lights, and those flashing by once traffic breaks up.
