Historical Context:
"The world is a subjective, personal experience. Constantly changing, places cannot be captured within a fragment of time. Places are made up of pieces, categorized by color, texture, pattern and shape. Each attribute functions as a sign allowing the mind to comprehend the purposes of that piece. Assembling in the mind, the pieces construct views, mental representations of what is seen. The lens does not have this capability; it records what the photographer has composed for the camera. Using the lens to portray pieces of the world, and then compiling the images reenacts the actions of the eye. Parts are seen and pieced together to construct a whole view, a unique idea of the world, which lives in the mind." Sara Gross
