Historical Context:
In 2020, American streets erupted in protests against systematic racism being found across the country. Ryan Crawley painted this image in the days following the riots as he watched Grand Rapids rebuild around him. "Peaceful protests were had and then they escalated into riots. Buildings were defaced, glass broken, but from what I know no one was killed. I'm not here to argue, I'm only here to thank the community for going into the city to clean up today. Today is just as important, cleaning up is important, and moving forward is important. While change is necessary, I hope this only helps the change. I want progress, I feel everyone can get behind that." - Ryan Crawley
