José Guadalupe Posada Print Collection ➔ La Bicicleta y el Resguardo de Ferrocarriles (The Bicycle and the Guard of the Railways)
Height: 11 in
Width: 8.5 in
The title "La Bicicleta y el Resguardo de Ferrocarribles" means "The Bicycle and the Guard of the Railways". The railway opened in Mexico and was owned by the government and Posada criticizes it throughout his career.
There are two images, both in black and white and the top without borders, while the bottom is with. The top image is of a small crowd, two people have been knocked to the ground, three men are running, one is on a bicycle, and one is standing to the left looking on. The bottom image is divided into two, the left half being a portrait of a young guard holding a gun and the right being crowds waiting on a platform outside of a train. This train is significant to Posada's time because in 1909 the Mexican national government took control of the country's railroads.
