Medium:Smoke on Paper
Black and white, with some brown, image of a flower created with smoke.
While not all accidents in the studio are for the better, sometimes accidents and experimentation can lead an artist on an entirely new pathway. For Dennis Lee Mitchell, that happened in 2011 as he held a blow torch in one hand while reaching for a piece of drawing paper, as the flame passed the paper, an image from the soot was left behind. Since then, Mitchell has worked towards perfecting the art of drawing with smoke. Much of his imagery remains consistent with his past as a ceramist, reflecting nature in its various forms.
