Description:
Four painted panels with two farm scenes and two marine scenes.
Historical Context:
Alten first stayed and painted in the northern French fishing village of Étaples in 1899. The town was home to the popular artist's colony known as the Étaples School from 1880 to 1914. The bottom left study, however, depicts a Normandy scene.
